WhatsApp beta teases much-needed feature. A new version of WhatsApp has been released, and it now supports Wear OS 3 smartwatches. If you have the beta installed, you may now get alerts and respond to WhatsApp calls on your wearable.
Additionally, you won’t need to go through your phone’s or smartwatch’s settings; once you download the update, the function will be enabled automatically.
The function is now a one-way affair, which is interesting (or terrible for those of you who enjoy chatting through your watch). While you may begin calls from your wearable using the WhatsApp phone app or another service, you can’t initiate calls from your wearable. Instead, you’ll need to use the WhatsApp phone app or another service if you wish to call someone.
As mentioned above, in order to use the functionality, you’ll need both a Wear OS 3 smartwatch and the most recent WhatsApp beta (version 2.22.19.11). The Montblanc Summit 3, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, and the recently released Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 are among the few gadgets now on the list.
The WearOS 3 upgrade for other watches, like the Fossil Gen 6 and TicWatch Pro 3, is likely to happen soon, and we expect the next Google Pixel Watch to launch with the OS as well. But for the time being, Samsung’s smartwatches are largely your only option.
All you need to do to get the WhatsApp beta version if you own one of these smartphones is go to the official WhatsApp test page on the Google Play store. It now appears to be full, but we expect it won’t be long until it’s included in the general WhatsApp release. You might get lucky and find a spot if someone leaves.
